Made in England, this wonderful wool has 421 shades suitable for all your needlepoint projects. Each skein is approximately 40-45 yards. Use 1-2 strands for 18 mesh canvas, 3-4 strands for 14 mesh canvas. A color card is not currently available on line that I can find. However, colors are noted according to the manufacturer's descriptive names in the color box. For best results when ordering wool, put comments in your order advising me what wool color you want by using DMC or Anchor colors and I'll match it as closely as possible for you. (For example "I would like a blue color like DMC 921.")

A-Z of Crewel Embroidery

This book is a delightful resource for beginning and experienced needleworkers. There are over 500 step-by-step phots and lots of designs for you to choose from. This books is from Australia but happily!!! we're able to get it here in the U.S. Although you might see the price as cheaper on the Australian websites, please be advised that with what we pay in freight and handling, the U.S. cost is $29.95.

This book begins with an overview of crewel embroidery, shows you a wealth of stitches (many which are shared with needlepoint) and then takes you into the exciting projects. Using Appleton crewel wool, DMC #5 perle cotton, Caron Watercolors, Anchor floss, seed beads and mohair(yes, we carry these items too!), these projects will certainly pique your interest in crewel embroidery.

Bleeding Heart Crewel Kit
Show your heart in this lovely design worked on white linen, measuring about 14" high. Kit comes packed with 100% wool persian yarn and enough yarn and instructions for the tassel. Bunnies Six Crewel Kit for Beginners

These cute little bunny sachets or ornaments will teach you 25 crewel stitches on 100% natural linen with 100% wool persian yarn and 100% rayon thread. You can make six single-sided bunnies OR three double-sided bunnies with the supplies in the kit. Ribbon is also provided. This is an appropriate kit for beginners to crewel work. Size of each finished piece is approximately 3"x 4." Also see the large rabbit shaped pillow if you have a "rabbit habit."

Candi Cottontail Animal Sampler Crewel Kit

This latest animal sampler pillow and companion to "Jacobean Bunny," Candi Cottontail faces in the opposite direction and teaches about 25 stitches in her array of spring flowers on white 100% linen. Look at those beautiful flowers! Kit contains 100% wool persian yarn, 100% cotton variegated floss, and everything but stuffing. Optional saying on back reads: "No bunny's as sweet as you!" This reasonably priced book reviews the techniques of crewel embroidery and then explores the innovations in materials and designs that have led to today's interest in crewel embroidery. Over 150 stitches and 10 projects are included but the best part of the book is the 50 full color pictures of stitched items that will set your creative mind whirring.

Crewel Fabric - Strathmore Linen

This is a cream colored fabric called Strathaven linen that is perfect for crewel work. We sell it by the yard, 1/2 yard or 1/4 yard for your convenience. Usually 1/4 yard is more than enough for your crewel piece as we cut it 18 x 27" for you. We also carry crewel weight Appleton wool and Medici wool.
